Concordia Group proposes apartments, townhomes for shuttered Vare School

We’ve been following the sales of the shuttered Bok, Vare and Smith schools for a while now. The Bok School is set to become a huge mixed-use space, but the plans for the other two schools haven’t been as quick to come through.

According to PhillyMag, the Concordia Group, who are also behind the proposed development that will replace Mt. Sinai, now has plans to develop Abigail Vare Elementary at 1619 E. Moyamensing Ave. into 45 apartments in the former school and six new townhomes behind the school.

Crafts & Drafts Festival is coming to Moonshine Philly this Saturday

It’s official, Boulevard Brewing Company is invading Philly. The craft beer specialist from Kansas City, Missouri will host a neighborhood block party called the Crafts & Drafts Festival at Moonshine on October 11 from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the 200 block Sigel Street next to the restaurant.

It’s part of a huge “On The Boulevard” roll out that contains of a full week of Boulevard themed events throughout the region. What can we expect from the Two Street block party?

Word on the street is that Moonshine in Pennsport will be rolling out a brunch menu starting Sunday morning.

Moyamensing business complex with brewery presented to Pennsport neighbors

The Pennsport Civic Association heard a presentation Tuesday night to convert the former eModa warehouse at Moyamensing and Moore streets into space for seven businesses, including a nanobrewery by Mellody Brewing.

Curbed Philly attended the meeting and broke down the plan and its vocal opposition from some of the neighbors over, you guessed it, parking.

Says Curbed:

The building, which is currently one huge wall of stucco, would be designed to look like seven separate businesses to breathe some life into the corner. So far, Mellody Brewing is the only tenant to come on aboard. However, Alex Duller mentioned that there is “serious” interest from multiple local business owners contingent upon the re-zoning of the property [to commercial use from residential].

Restaurant coming to 242 Wharton St. will be the Pennsport Beer Boutique

The liquor license at Moyamensing and Wharton we told you about yesterday is for a beer garden and market that’s opening there called Pennsport Beer Boutique.

Owners of the beer garden, located at 242 Wharton St., are set to present their plan to the Pennsport Civic Association tonight at 7 p.m. at the EOM center 138 Moore St. Essentially, according to Pennsport Beer Boutique’s Facebook page, they plan to offer a “grand assortment of beers by the bottle,” plus have drafts, growler refills and a menu.

The website also describes the place as a gourmet market, and shows a picture of some kind of wrap and a fruit salad. Maybe they’re planning something like Hawthorne’s on 11th Street?

New restaurant with liquor license coming to 3rd and Wharton

UPDATE: The place will be a beer garden and gourmet market called Pennsport Beer Boutique.

A liquor license has been posted to the former storefront of NeoGenesis Health Center, located at the intersection where Wharton Street crosses 3rd Street and Moyamensing Avenue.

The license lists “1301 Brunello, LLC” as the applicant in conjunction with an “eating place.” Neighbors report that workers were on the premises this weekend installing the ornamental trees, which look to be used for marking off an outdoor dining space.

Positioned across the street from Caffe Valentino, this building also houses Moylan Chiropractic which is owned by Dr. James Moylan, president of the Pennsport Civic Association. Moylan said his office will be uninterrupted by whatever is going in next door.
