Columbus Boulevard gets new name in honor of Easy Company’s Guarnere and Heffron

Over the past year, two local World War II veterans who served in the Easy Company depicted on HBO’s Band of Brothers have been given new memorials in South Philly. Edward “Babe” Heffron was given a bronze statue in his home neighborhood of Pennsport, while Bill Guarnere was honored with the renaming of the 2200 block of Winton St. as “Wild Bill Way.”

Now the two late war veterans will be honored together with a stretch of Columbus Boulevard being renamed in their honor.

Now a stretch of Columbus Boulevard from Washington to Oregon could be renamed in honor of two members of the Easy Company, William J. Guarnere and Edward “Babe” Heffron, who were also South Philly natives.

Babe Heffron memorial statue unveiled in Pennsport

Edward “Babe” Heffron, a local World War II veteran and member of the Easy Company portrayed on HBO’s “Band of Brothers,” now has a statue in his home neighborhood of Pennsport.

Easy Company’s “Babe” Heffron memorial statue to be unveiled on September 17

Earlier this year we told you about the memorial statue of Edward “Babe” Heffron, a local World War II veteran and member of the Easy Company depicted on the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, that would be placed on the northwest corner of 2nd and Reed at Herron Park.

Heffron, who grew up in Pennsport, passed away in 2013 at the age of 90. Now his memory will live on for years more with a bronze statue of him being unveiled at a block party celebration on Thursday, September 17.

Easy Company’s “Babe” Heffron to be immortalized in bronze at Herron Playground in Pennsport

The northwest corner of 2nd and Reed St. in Pennsport will soon house a memorial to Edward  ”Babe” Heffron, a local World War II veteran.

Heffron, a member of the legendary Easy Company along with longtime friend “Wild” Bill Guarnere, was depicted in the HBO miniseries Band of Brothers. Fundraising efforts for a statue are about to officially kick off at an event held at The Irish Pub on Nov. 11, Veterans Day.
