While The Dutch is a breakfast spot, they also host “night kitchen” events. At the end of this month, Noord and Fond will be participating in a cook off between their two kitchens.

Noord and Fond teaming up for new breakfast spot in former Fourth and Cross location

The Pennsport community was disappointed when Fourth and Cross announced its closure at the end of 2015 after less than a year in the former Bell’s Delly location.

HUGE! ‘Top Chef’ contestant opening BYOB called Laurel at 1617 E. Passyunk

The red-hot Passyunk Avenue strip continues its streak with the news that Nicholas Elmi, a contest on the upcoming season of Bravo’s “Top Chef” and the former chef/partner at Le Bec Fin, will be taking over the tiny space at 1617 E. Passyunk Ave.

The Insider reports that Elmi, who was most recently at the Rittenhouse Tavern at the Art Alliance on Rittenhouse Square, will be opening a BYOB in what had been Fond’s location before it moved to bigger digs with a bar at 11th and Tasker.

Fond starts a happy hour deal

Fond has been pouring tasty wines at its new liquor-licensed fountain location for a few months now.

But if you like the look of the new place but happen to be on a budget, it may be a bit out of reach to grab a quick bite at the bar. Well, you can now with the new happy hour there, 1537 S. 11th St.

Fond 029

It does look really inviting, doesn’t it?

They’re offering $6 wines by the glass, $4 Victory drafts, and best of all for the uninitiated curious, discounted bar snacks for $7.

One little problem is that it only runs Tuesday through Thursday. Maybe with a little friendly encouragement, we can all get them to include Friday, and dare we say it, Sunday?

CORRECTION: Yep, Happy Hour is on Fridays too. Sorry for the mistake!

Beard love, slimy wings, horse meat, Gennaro’s sings

So much going on around here, it calls for a link dump.

Grub Street finds out that East Passyunk has four finalists for the James Beard Awards with nods to the folks at Artisan Boulanger, Will BYOB, Le Virtu and Fond.

Adam Erace of the City Paper pans the Asian barbecue wings at Stix, at 1225 Fitzwater. “Glazed in a sugary-gingered slime, they made me want to bang bang my head against the wall.”

Speaking of Le Virtu, Foobooz spotted that chef Joe Cicala says that despite a horse meat scandal in Europe, he wants to put horse meat on the menu, and apparently so does Marc Vertri and Peter McAndrews at Monsu.

Phyllis Stein-Novack at South Philly Review loves Gennaro’s, which we told you about last month. “If you like thin-crust pizza, you will love Gennaro’s pies.”
