Hear Ye! Hear Ye! Head to historic Fort Mifflin this weekend to join the lords, ladies, pirates and Vikings (yes, Vikings) at this year’s Philadelphia Renaissance Faire. Upon entering, the “townsfolk,” dressed in period garb, will greet you with a caution to “Watch out for the dragons!” flying overhead. They’re referring to the planes taking off intermittently from nearby Philadelphia International Airport. Though loud, they will not eat you.
There’s no lack of entertainment here, with two stages offering a wide variety of shows including magic, comedy, music and belly dancing. Not to be missed: “Shakespeare Approves!” This one-man-show incorporates multiple audience members to perform fun versions of Shakespearean classics – all while keeping the audience roaring with laughter.
There’s action off the stage too. We witnessed an impromptu sword fight and participated in whip-cracking lessons from the Whipsy Rover. Note: cracking a bull-whip is a lot harder than it looks! Continue Reading →
