Should retail, restaurant workers pay $300 a year for local permit parking?

This week, the main parking issue is related to the papal visit. But in South Philly in general, the parking restrictions and spaces can be a tight find on any given day.

For restaurant and retail workers in South Philly without residential parking permits in the area, it may be difficult to find spaces–and sometimes they may have to move their cars every two hours for lack of permits. Should these employees have the opportunity to pay for local permit parking?

Francoluigi’s may eventually open an East Passyunk Avenue restaurant

Francoluigi’s pizzeria has been a neighborhood staple at 13th and Tasker for more than 30 years.

While the Francoluigi’s at that spot doesn’t seem to be going anywhere anytime soon, an article from Philly.com about the the pizzeria mentioned the possibility for a new restaurant from owner Frank Borda.

That’s-a one-a fine-a landlord at FrancoLuigi’s!

Sorry if that headline is offensive to our Italian-American readers, but what else can you say for a landlord who gives away his pizza to good tenants?

The Insider had an interesting little post yesterday about Franco Borda, the owner of FrancoLuigi’s, which has been dishing out pies at 13th and Tasker since 1982. Borda owns more than a dozen rentals in the neighborhood and gives a free pizza to every tenant who pays their rent on or before the first of the month.

It seems to work, he says, because 95 percent of his tenants show up religiously on or before the first to claim the pizza.

Mmmm, fiscally delicious…
