Mayor Nutter tours East Passyunk to promote GPTMC’s neighborhood effort

Mayor Nutter hopped on a trolley yesterday and stopped into three of the 14 neighborhoods now being promoted to tourists by the  Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation. Two of them, naturally, were in South Philly.

Nutter strolled Baltimore Avenue in the Cedar Park section of West Philly, near 50th Street, before heading south for a stop at the fountain and a little walk down Passyunk. He then continued his tour by heading to South Street.

Four South Philly ‘hoods being marketed to tourists

The Greater Philadelphia Tourism Marketing Corporation recently launched a campaign to get the tourists to think past the Liberty Bell and realize there’s a whole city out there.

Aimed at getting visitors to stay longer, the campaign highlights 14 neighborhoods in all, including Bella Vista, Graduate Hospital, East Passyunk and Pennsport.

Each hood gets its own slick page, complete with a video highlighting the best of each neighborhood. You, dear readers, may be able to guess what the best might be, but much of the businesses would never be seen otherwise by some of our less adventurous visitors.
