Trees around Jenks School improved with wood surrounds for tree beds, mulching

The trees surrounding the A.S. Jenks School at 2501 S. 13th St. are getting a bit of a facelift.

Ground officially broken for East Passyunk gateway project

Since the plans were first announced for the East Passyunk gateway project back in January 2014, it’s been a hot-topic project for the avenue.

East Passyunk gateway project set to break ground tomorrow, with updated renderings

A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for tomorrow night on the gateway project at East Passyunk, Broad and McKean, which was announced with much fanfare in January 2014.

This is the flashiest of four lighting options under consideration. Renderings provided by PARC.

The sparse plaza will be torn up to turn that little wedge into more-usable “flex” space, complete with what is becoming a common refrain for avenue projects: seating, better lighting and improved landscaping.

Newbold Civic Association Presents Two Greening Plans at Guerin Rec Center

The Newbold Civic Association and the Philadelphia Water Department presented two potential plans for a stormwater reclamation project at Guerin Recreation Center at 2201 S. 16th St.

The plans seek to beautify and green a large asphalt patch in the southeast corner of the facility.

What's Happening in:  Pennsport :  Queen Village 

Help CDAG clean up the riverfront trail between Pier 53 and Pier 70

The Central Delaware Advocacy Group has partnered with sustainable goods provider United By Blue to run an expansive cleanup effort of the Southern Delaware Trail from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m on Saturday, Sept. 27. The trail connects Washington Avenue Pier (Pier 53) at Washington Avenue and Columbus Boulevard and flows south down to Pier 68 & 70 in the Walmart parking lot.

The cool part? It looks like you’ll be getting an inside (albeit kind of dirty) look into the trail by wading into the water and stepping onto those amazing piers.  Think of it as a humanitarian form of UrbEx.
