Phila. Open Air Market moving to Headhouse Square just off South St. in April

The Philadelphia Open Air Market, which opened last year at 23rd and Arch streets, has decided to move this year to Headhouse Square, or 2nd Street just north of South.


Yeah, yeah, this is definitely not in South Philly, but it just brushes up against it, so why not, right?

PHAIR, not to be confused with the Philadelphia Arts Market proposed for Broad and Washington, plans for an April 5 start for its market of a rotating variety of artists, crafters, designers, photographers, vintage dealers, farm stands and food trucks.

To-Do List: Hot dog cook-off, cool off deliciously & drink beer with your neighbors

There’s nothing like grilling in the summer, but it’s even better when someone else does it for you.

The South Street Headhouse District and Hot Diggity are throwing a hot dog cookoff from noon to 4 p.m. on the 400 block of South 2nd Street, aka Headhouse Square. Participating restaurants include Hot Diggity!, Brauhaus Schmitz, The Twisted Tail, Bridget Foy’s, Copabanana, Bistro Romano, Marc Vetri’s Alla Spina, Lucky’s Last Chance, Misconduct Tavern, La Calaca Feliz, and Chefs Aaron Gottesman and Jen Carroll for Border Springs Lamb Farm.

There will also be a toppings contest, beer tents and live music from a seven-piece funk ensemble. Pay as you go.

The beer is still flowing for a couple more days for Beer Week, so there’s plenty to keep you occupied and buzzed, if you so dare. But there are other things out there than alcohol, we’ve heard.


Catch the final night of the Philly Beer Week Garden at Headhouse Square.

From the South Street Headhouse District newsletter:

You’ll enjoy special one-offs and rare beer treats, some of them available exclusively at the beer garden, as well as food from South Street District restaurants and live bands.  The Philly Beer Week Garden will be open nightly, from Monday, June 3 through Friday, June 7 from 5 p.m. until 9 p.m.  Admission is free, beer and food are pay-as-you-go.
