For Indego‘s first birthday, the bike share system for Philadelphia announced an expansion of 24 stations that would add an additional 300 bikes to the service. So how many new stations will be coming to South Philly?
Not all that many. This addition of stations only adds five more bike share locations to the general area (including the two on South Street). One major gap noticeably left off of the map in this new round of additions is still the East Passyunk area.
With so many of those blue bikes being used, certain stations are expanding. The station at Darien and Catharine Streets has been a popular location, so additional docks were installed, making it the largest station in the city so far.
We shared with you the preliminary plans for the first stage of the unveiling of the new bike share program, now called Indego, with 18 potential stations in South Philly. The new draft station map, which is still being finalized, has quite a few less stations placed in South Philly.

The preliminary map showed 18 stations throughout South Philly and now we’re down to just 12 stations of the 60 stations being planned across the city. Sounds like a pretty small number for such a big portion of the city, doesn’t it?
