Rumor Mill: Has the Interior Concepts building been sold for $2.3 million?

Last week we told you that Interior Concepts at 1701 E. Passyunk Ave. is planning to close. While some were skeptical about about the validity of the “store closing” signs, some sources tell us that the building has been sold.

According to Interior Concepts’ owner, Mark Leon, the building was sold about two months ago and that he plans to close in May. So how much did this prime location on East Passyunk Avenue sell for?

How about spending $2.9 million for Interior Concepts building?

The large corner building at Passyunk and Morris that houses the Interior Concepts furniture store has come onto the market for $2.9 million.

And the listing suggests tearing the sucker down and building a taller mixed-use building plus four townhouses at the back of it.

Worth almost $3 million?

The listing by Coldwell Banker Preferred tries to make the case for the asking price:

Situated in the best possible location in East Passyunk, this building sits on a lot that is 6,716 sq. ft. and is zoned CMX-2.5 allowing for building heights of 55 feet. The current building has over 57 feet of window frontage on this bustling section of Passyunk Ave. spanning over three addresses and also has a depth of 116’ feet on Morris St.

Ugly Furniture! Hysterical video about Interior Concepts

As window displays go, the lucite nightmare at Interior Concepts furniture store at EPA and Morris takes the cake. Ceramic sax players, crystaline coffee tables, purple metal dining sets that would be at home on the set of Beetlejuice — you name it, they got it when it comes to awful furniture.

Actually, though, the store has a lot of great stuff inside, deep in the back, away from the prying eyes of passersby. Full disclosure: The world headquarters of the Passyunk Post has a very nice sectional couch from IC.
Incidentally, the building had a for sale sign but it was taken down and no sale has been recorded with the city, which says it was last sold in 1996. And we couldn’t find a real-estate listing anywhere.
But really, this post was an excuse to put that video out there.
