Connie’s Ric Rac renovating bar, adding seating and ‘extensive french fry topping menu’

Live music venue Connie’s Ric Rac is reopening Thursday night after some renovations, with more seating, draft beer and big plans for food starting in March.

Ron Bauman, a new partner in the Italian Market bar at 1132 s 9th St., said they are extending the bar six feet toward the stage. The soundboard is getting pulled out from behind the bar and they’re building a booth on the opposite wall.

They are adding seating in the storefront next door, which now is being used mostly for storage. Leaning elbow rails with bar stools will ring the main room. A four-tap kegerator will also be installed, bringing draft beer there got the first time.

“Once thats done, we’re going into overdrive with opening the kitchen,” Bauman said.

Liquid Vinyl record shop opens in a Queen Village basement

Call it a modern-day business mash-up.

A new record store called Liquid Vinyl – to clarify, it’s a new shop that mostly sells used records – has opened in the basement of a Queen Village pet-supply store that also doubles as the headquarters for a dog-walking company.

Rich Miller, owner of Walk It Like a Dog at 934 E. Moyamensing, said he and a couple buddies had always wanted to open a record store but knew it wasn’t the best business venture. Then one day, it dawned on him that they had a rent-free space available downstairs.

UPDATED: Work’s about to start on refurbishing the Boot and Saddle sign

UPDATE: There’s a new, earlier opening date – Monday Sept. 9. And Philly.com has a couple details about the plan for the food: “The kitchen will be open from 5 p.m. until 2 a.m. seven days a week, the bar will feature 10 rotating draft (craft) beer options and the backroom, which will host musical performances and dance parties, will open at 8 p.m. with shows starting at 9 p.m.”


Our eagle-eyed contributor Dan Berlin spotted some interesting action at the Boot and Saddle yesterday.

Scaffolding was being installed out front of the bar at 1131 S. Broad St., which would suggest that the promised refurbishment of that gloriously kitschy neon sign is about to begin.
