Saturday’s Newbold Blues Festival is all about the green, trees that is…

What says summers more than blues music, BBQ and summer craft beers? How about lush greenery and beautiful flowers? The Newbold Community Development Corporation (CDC) is hosting the Newbold Blues Festival this Saturday from 12 to 5 p.m. on the 1900 block of South Bancroft Street (next to Second District Brewery) to raise money for its Community Greening Program.

2017-newbold-blues-festival Over the past 8 years, Newbold CDC has planted over 400 trees, landscaped three intersections, installed 20 landscape planters, and created several gardens along West Passyunk and Snyder Avenues.

Sausage Fest returns to West Passyunk Avenue this weekend with beer, entertainment and more

Sausage Fest, the street festival dedicated to beer, sausage and most importantly, community building, is back for its second year on Saturday, September 10.

The Newbold CDC will be giving 100% of the proceeds from the event back into the community to support the cleaning program for the area.

Newbold Civic Association to join forces with neighborhood Community Development Corporation

Instead of being two separate entities, Newbold Civic Association and Newbold Community Development Corporation now have plans to reorganize as one organization to better serve the community.

The CDC currently services the area from Tasker to Wolf and Broad to 18th. Now that the two organizations are joining together, they will continue to work towards bettering the community through business development, greening efforts and more community-oriented events and initiatives.

Newbold Civic Association Presents Two Greening Plans at Guerin Rec Center

The Newbold Civic Association and the Philadelphia Water Department presented two potential plans for a stormwater reclamation project at Guerin Recreation Center at 2201 S. 16th St.

The plans seek to beautify and green a large asphalt patch in the southeast corner of the facility.

  • Groundbreaking is tomorrow for a new 75,000 square foot building at the Navy Yard that will house the U.S. headquarters of companies from Australia and the United Kingdom, as well as additional offices for another company that’s grown past its current space there, reports the Philadelphia Business Journal.
  • The Newbold CDC is holding a happy hour for the new Newbold Business Council on May 1 on the fourth-floor deck of AJ Appliance at 15th and West Passyunk. West of Broad business owners should RSVP for the 5;30 to 8 p.m. happy hour, which includes free drinks and snacks, to president@newboldcdc.org.

Newbold CDC launching business advisory council this spring

newbold cdcThe Newbold Community Development Corporation will be launching a business association in the spring to benefit the West Passyunk and Snyder Avenue commercial corridors.

Branded as the Newbold Business Advisory Council, the raison d’etre of the Council is to enlist the local business community to support Newbold CDC’s ongoing projects. In so doing, it will assist the local business community in achieving its own goals of increased economic activity in the Newbold area.
