Cantina is paving its outside patio

The Cantina is making summertime margarita-sipping a little less buggy as it makes another update to its outside patio.

A crew was outside the restaurant yesterday getting the ground ready to pour the concrete. The gravel that covered the ground — and provided plenty of nooks and crannies for mosquitoes to hide in — has been removed.

Nice. Now, what ever happened to that “living mural” that was supposed to go up on the wall? Last we heard, the Mural Arts Program was still looking for funding, but that was in 2012.

Stateside installs stools outside – bolted to the wall

After being granted an extension of their outside seating permit, Stateside has taken a novel approach to al fresco dining that will further cement the restaurant’s top-notch reputation.

The restaurant installed swing-out stools on the outside of the bar. The height of each is adjustable by swiveling the seat. They’re also bolted to the brick wall, taking care of the pesky slanting sidewalk that would have made traditional stools treacherous.

Le Virtu to debut new patio at party Sunday

UPDATE: This post has been updated from an earlier version.

Le Virtu’s new patio, which we told you about in March, will get its public unveiling with a party on Sunday. But it looks like it’s ready to go already.

On Sunday, Chef Joe Cicala will serve Le Virtu soup, “the restaurant’s namesake and a quintessential Abruzzese spring dish made with more than 40 ingredients, grilled Arrosticini (lamb skewers) and grilled sausage and vegetables,” according to a news release. Tickets for the party, which runs from 1 to 3 p.m., cost $45 and include wines from the recently added tap wine system.

ASB owner John Longacre had to endure two hearings before the Zoning Board of Adjustment and some nasty battles with a few neighbors before finally getting approval at the end of February for a patio, which he said will “distinguish the American Sardine Bar from every other bar in the city.
