New citywide 10-K race will begin and end on East Passyunk

UPDATE: This race sold out in 70 minutes. Guess running through this hood is popular, huh?


The local shoe-store chain Philadelphia Runner has announced that it will hold a 10-K race in September that will start steps from the fountain and end with an East Passyunk street festival.

Up to 3,000 runners will wind through a dozen city neighbors on  Sept. 6 for the Philly 10-K, which eschewed the typical Fairmount Park course in favor of a more urban track. Reports the Philadelphia Business Journal:

“This is the first race we can think of that is really self-contained in the core of the city,” said Bryan Mahon, co-owner of Philadelphia Runner, which has two stores in the city and a third in Chadds Ford, Pa. “There are a lot of great races in Philly but we wanted to add something that was different than what was already out there.”
