Philly AIDS Thrift celebrating 10 years with block party this weekend

To celebrate 10 years in business, the non-profit Philly AIDS Thrift is having a block party outside of their store at 710 S. 5th St. on Saturday, October 3.


Over the span of a decade in business, Philly AIDS Thrift has donated over a million dollars to area organizations for the fight against HIV/AIDS. That’s a pretty good reason to celebrate.

What's Happening in:  Bella Vista 

Philly AIDS Thrift expanding into huge second floor

Philly AIDS Thrift  is expanding into a 3,800 square-foot space on the second floor so it can add a huge selection of used furniture and possibly Christmas items.

Currently, the store, at 710 S. 5th St., has most of its stock of donated clothes, housewares, electronics and other sundries on the first floor, with books and a community/cafe section on the third. The addition of the second floor will give the shop the space it needs to spread merchandise out more, manager/co-founder Christina Kallas-Saritsoglou explained.

“None of us thought in a million years that we would expand so much by moving around the corner,” she said, referring to the previous location at 514 Bainbridge St.
