What's Happening in:  Bella Vista 

Darien and Catharine Indego station now the largest in the city

Since Philadelphia’s bike share program, called Indego, launched earlier this year, it has become a popular method of transportation throughout the city.

With so many of those blue bikes being used, certain stations are expanding. The station at Darien and Catharine Streets has been a popular location, so additional docks were installed, making it the largest station in the city so far.

Updated bike share locations, more details unveiled

We shared with you the preliminary plans for the first stage of the unveiling of the new bike share program, now called Indego, with 18 potential stations in South Philly. The new draft station map, which is still being finalized, has quite a few less stations placed in South Philly.

The preliminary map showed 18 stations throughout South Philly and now we’re down to just 12 stations of the 60 stations being planned across the city. Sounds like a pretty small number for such a big portion of the city, doesn’t it?

Report shows bicycle commuting into Center City continues to surge

The Center City District recently released a report that shows northbound bicycle commuting numbers have increased by 33.4% over the past two years.

Philadelphia has more people commuting by bicycle, per capita, than any of the other ten biggest cities in the United States. (Source: Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia)

Amid rising gas prices and improved access to bike lanes, soon to include an improved Washington Ave. experience, the numbers are only expected to grow.

Spot the Philly Bike Share stickers and speak up about potential locations

Philly Bike Share recently released a map of 100 proposed locations for the initial wave of kiosk installation in the spring of next year.

18 stations may be placed below South Street in bike share’s first phase

Eighteen bike share stations are expected to be installed in South Philly during the first phase of the system’s spring roll-out, including 10 below Washington Avenue.

Plan Philly reported that the Philly Bike Share website unveiled the locations on an interactive map and invited city residents to offer feedback on the proposed locations and suggest additional ones.
