United By Blue continuing Delaware River cleanup efforts with April cleanup

Over the last few years, Philadelphia-based clothing and coffee retailer United By Blue has contributed to the removal of over 19,000 lbs of waste from the Delaware River through a series of cleanups.

These cleanup events are hosted at various locations, including a few different points of the Delaware River. A cleanup event is being hosted in April starting at Pier 68, the new pier park that opened in the fall just off of the South Philly Walmart parking lot.

Completed Pier 68 park to be unveiled on October 1

Last week we told you about the new land acquisitions for the Delaware River Trail. Now there’s even more reason to be excited about the future of the waterfront, with the completion of Pier 68 park.

Work began on the park earlier this summer after being talked about since 2013. This new space on the formerly abandoned pier near the Walmart on Columbus Boulevard is now ready to be unveiled at a ceremony on October 1.

Check out the design for Pier 68, South Philly’s third new planned park

Grab your fishing pole. Well, soon.

By this time next year, the abandoned Pier 68 behind the Walmart shopping center on Columbus Boulevard will be transformed into a park that will serve as the southern gateway to the Delaware River trail.

City officials and the Delaware River Waterfront Corporation unveiled designs yesterday for the planned pier park, which will include space for fishing, relaxing and education.

City to unveil design of Pier 68 park on Thursday

City bigwigs are scheduled to gather on Thursday morning at Pier 68 to unveil the final design for the planned park (and designated fishing area) behind near the Walmart on Columbus Boulevard.

Officials will discuss the planned improvements as well as the construction timeline, presumably not to be finished by August as was originally planned when we told you about the park back in October.
