What's Happening in:  Point Breeze 

Two new PWD rain gardens are coming to Point Breeze

Green City, Clean Waters has been bringing green infrastructure improvements to the city, with new rain gardens in the form of planters and trenches with trees, along with some less-visible improvements below-ground. The city’s plan is for the program is to triple in size by 2021 to keep making Philadelphia a greener city.

Point Breeze will soon be seeing more rain gardens, one at 1701 S. Ringgold St. and another at 1900 Point Breeze Ave. thanks to Green City, Clean Waters. On Tuesday, October 18, the Philadelphia Water Department will be giving the neighborhood the opportunity to learn more about the improvements coming to these two lots.

What's Happening in:  All over South Philly 

Green City, Clean Waters seeking feedback on future stormwater improvements

In South Philly we’ve been seeing a number of Green Cities, Clean Waters improvements being implemented recently. The program from the Philadelphia Water Department is meant to bring green infrastructure improvements to the city to reduce stormwater pollution.

By 2021, they plan to triple the program’s size, bringing even more green improvements to South Philly’s neighborhoods and beyond. In order to continue moving forward with this, they’re seeking community feedback on the improvements to this point and other changes to be implemented over the next five years.

What's Happening in:  Newbold 

Meeting for Guerin Rec Center shows neighborhood split over green space

UPDATE: According to the Newbold Civic Association, 84% of the comment cards submitted at the meeting were in favor of the green space.

As we told you last week, the plans for the green space in the parking lot of Guerin Recreation Center at 2201 S. 16th St. have been a bit delayed.

When the project was presented at past meetings, it was mostly favored by the community. Now based on the community reaction at last night’s meeting at the recreation center, there is a split in the neighborhood, mostly based on the South Philly hot-topic issues of parking and dog poop.

What's Happening in:  Newbold 

Plan for green space at Guerin Rec Center needs community support again

In 2014, two plans were presented to create a green space in the parking lot at Guerin Recreation Center. At that meeting, the 50 attendees almost unanimously voted for this plan, which would use a portion of the parking lot at 2201 S. 16th St. to create this green space thanks to the Water Department and funding from the Green Cities, Clean Waters program.

A year later, the project needs the support of the community again due to complaints over the loss of parking spaces and potential contamination under the parking lot, which has reportedly not been tested.

What's Happening in:  East Passyunk Crossing 

Community meeting to be held for 10th and Tasker sinkhole and water main repair

For months now, 10th and Tasker has been shut down due to a sinkhole and water main break.

In addition to the road being closed for months, neighbors have been experiencing other problems with water pressure in their homes. Since this is a problem for so many residents, a community meeting is being held to share some more information about this emergency construction work.
