Reed Estates passes through Civic Design Review despite split opinions on project’s density

We recently shared with you plans for Reed Estates, a development that would bring 26 single-family homes to Pennsport.

The project for 116 Reed St. was reviewed by the Civic Design Review this week. Two board members expressed split opinions on whether the density and lack of greenery is a “missed opportunity.”

Reed Estates could bring 26 single-family homes to Pennsport

A the end of December a proposal for a mix of apartments, townhouses and retail, with the addition of one very tall billboard, was presented for the Freda Meats factory in Pennsport.

A less controversial development is also being planned in the neighborhood at 116-30 Reed St., featuring 26 single-family homes.

What's Happening in:  Passyunk Square 

11th and Reed trolley tracks have finally been removed

Last summer it was announced that the trolley tracks at 11th and Reed, along with about 20 other intersections in the city, would be removed. The inactive Route 23 tracks have been a hazard to bicyclists and drivers alike for years now, since the trolley stopped service over 20 years ago.

Over the weekend the tracks were finally removed at the Passyunk Square intersection.

What's Happening in:  Point Breeze 

Owners of Taquitos de Puebla are opening a new restaurant in Point Breeze

Breezy’s Cafe’s opened in 2013 at 2011 Reed St. A short time later, the shop moved and has now closed in that location as well. While we don’t currently know what the future holds for Breezy’s new location, we do have some news about the cafe’s original Point Breeze spot.
