ReNewbold finally schedules official groundbreaking – and BBQ

Yes, we’ve been burned before, but we got word yesterday that ReNewbold, the long-delayed housing development coming to 16th and Moore, has finally scheduled a groundbreaking ceremony.

And this time, there can’t be any more delays. A whole passel of politicians and civic leaders are scheduled to attend the ceremony, which is set for Wednesday Oct. 16 at 3 p.m.

The development, by LPMG (headed by John Longacre, owner of South Philly Tap Room and American Sardine Bar) in partnership with Postgreen Homes, will bring 16 rowhomes, two condos and one corner retail space to Newbold. The project, which will seek LEED certification, is the “single largest private investment in the West Broad neighborhood of Newbold in more than 50 years,” according to a news release.

ReNewbold finally about to get moving

ReNewbold, the long-promised green development at 16th and Moore, is finally about to get under way.

About two years after the project was announced, developer John Longacre of LPMG Companies told us last week that the architects believe they’re about 30 days away from securing permits.

“So I expect the groundbreaking could be 30 to 45 days,” said Longacre, who owns the nearby South Philly Tap Room, American Sardine Bar and Brew/Ultimo coffee.

We noticed last week that the two-story properties were on the market and checked in with the realtor, who said they were finally able to secure financing.
