Engine 46 to be demolished “on or after July 30″

A notice of demolition was posted on the old Engine 46 firehouse saying that it would be torn down on or after July 30, reports Pennsporter.

The historic – but not designated “historic” – building at Reed and Water streets has been under fire since the beginning of the year. One permit filed was in January “for the partial demolition of an existing building” and another in February that said “demolition of existing building as part of secondary building.”

What’s that demolition permit on old firehouse at Water and Reed?

Demolition permits have been filed for the building at 1401 S. Water St., the old firehouse that until 2006 was the Engine 46 steakhouse.

Would be a shame to lose such a cool building. Pics from our friend Pennsporter

But it’s unclear what that means for the historic firehouse, built in 1895 and whose crenellated tower is visible from I-95. One permit filed in January  is “for the partial demolition of an existing building” and another filed last month says “demolition of existing building as part of secondary building.”
