A developer says he has a plan to build a massive mixed-use project on the gated site of the sheetmetal workers union hall just south of the east end of Washington Avenue.
Eric Blumenfeld, who has completed a number of projects on North Broad Street, told the Inquirer blog PhillyDeals that he has partnered with the union to build offices, apartments and restaurants on 20 acres between Columbus Boulevard and the river over the next several years.
“Based on the new zoning, it should turn into an entire city,” with 1,000 or more apartments, stores, “waterside dining,” and maybe offices on 600,000 sq. ft. between Columbus Ave. and the Delaware, says Blumenfeld. The Delaware River Waterfront Develoment Corp. has a plan to build a trail through the property that would “mimic what exists on the Schuylkill.”
