Today’s the first day for SEPTA Key, but not everyone can get rid of their tokens just yet

SEPTA Key has been delayed again and again over the past few years. Now today, Monday, June 13, is the beginning of the service for a select number of customers.

A total of 10,000 passengers will become “early adopters” of the program today, starting with weekly and monthly passes. As of right now, there is only one location in South Philly that will be offering Key.

Snyder SEPTA station will be the first South Philly location to offer new Key cards in June

We’ve been anxiously awaiting SEPTA’s step into the future with a token-less system for years now. SEPTA Key was originally set to be unveiled in 2014, only to have the release date pushed back again and again. Now there’s finally an official date for the program to begin.

June 13 will mark the beginning of the SEPTA Key, but not everyone will be able to use it right away. This release date is meant specifically for “early adopters,” including 10,000 passengers who will be able to buy a weekly or monthly pass. If you want a pass in South Philly, you’re going to have to get it at the Snyder Avenue station on the Broad Street Line.
