11th and Reed trolley tracks have finally been removed

Last summer it was announced that the trolley tracks at 11th and Reed, along with about 20 other intersections in the city, would be removed. The inactive Route 23 tracks have been a hazard to bicyclists and drivers alike for years now, since the trolley stopped service over 20 years ago.

Over the weekend the tracks were finally removed at the Passyunk Square intersection.

12th Street repaving covers inactive Route 23 trolley tracks

Over the summer we told you about a portion of the inactive Route 23 trolley tracks being removed at 11th and Reed.

Trolley tracks to be removed at 11th and Reed

The tracks from the inactive Route 23 trolley are being removed at 11th and Reed in the fall.

Thanks to the efforts of the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia, the tracks are being removed to prevent future bicycle accidents on the unmaintained tracks.
