First Pics: Vanilya bakery opens at 1611 E. Passyunk Ave.

The long-awaited Vanilya Bakery has finally opened at 1611 E. Passyunk Ave. in place of the former La Piu Bella bridal shop.

Vanilya was ready for its grand opening on Friday.

Way back in October 2012, we reported that a bakery would be coming to this space, and lo and behold, owner Bonnie Sarana Noll pulled the paper off the windows last week on her shop. It is a special-occasion bakery (wedding cakes, birthday cakes, more) that also will sell individual desserts like cookies, tiramisu, chocolate mousse, cheesecake and two or three kinds of cupcakes with a flavor of the day.

The Sealed with a Kiss shop has opened in its new space at 1912 E. Passyunk Ave. As we told you a few weeks back, the shop handles wedding invitations.

The Passyunk wedding boom continues.

A wedding invitation shop is moving into 1912 E. Passyunk Ave., where the Sir William Art and Collectibles Gallery recently closed.

The store is called Sealed With A Kiss, and it’s moving from 10th and McKean streets. A landing page with some contact information – and the slogan “Affordably bringing your vision to life” – is at swakbridal.com.

The Carolyn Verdi wedding boutique we told you about last month has opened at 1746 E. Passyunk Ave.

The stock includes a wide selection of dresses (all discounted samples, all new), jewelry and a smattering of handbags and other accessories. Verdi also offers wedding planning services out of this location as well as custom invitations. She even does the calligraphy herself.

Wedding fireworks mean no more private events at the fountain

The wedding reception that was held at East Passyunk Avenue’s Singing Fountain last month was the first – and most likely last – private event to be held there.

It’s a shame, because it was such a great idea, but the unauthorized use of fireworks has ruined the fun for everyone.

After lots of complaints from people living in the vicinity of the fountain about fireworks being set off precariously close to some homes, the Passyunk Avenue Revitalization Corporation, the organization that owns the fountain, put the kibosh on any private events taking place there in the future.
