Have you applied for Homestead Exemption yet?

If you haven’t, you only have a couple weeks left. The deadline to apply is Nov. 15.

You probably got an application in the mail at least once, and like us, many of you probably ignored it because, hey, who mails anything anymore? Well, procrastinators, good news. Here’s an online form that takes about 90 seconds to fill out. If you already sent a form in during the summer, there’s no need to do it again.

Under current law it will knock $30,000 off your home’s taxable assessed value starting in the 2014 tax year, when the city plans to implement the Actual Value Initiative for property taxes. And if you’ve heard anything about it at all, South Philly is going to get hit like a ton of bricks, so every little bit helps. The new assessments will be mailed out in February. Fingers crossed.

For more info, go to opa.phila.gov or call the Homestead Hotline at 215-686-9200.
