Passyunk Christmas tree lighting brings out the masses

More than 300 neighbors and visitors poured onto the streets around the fountain last night for the Christmas Tree Lighting on Passyunk Avenue and Tasker Street. As we told you last week, the street was closed off to cars and the block surrounding the fountain was bustling with couples, families, dogs and the big man himself, Santa.

Businesses along the Avenue provided free food and drinks for attendees. The hot chocolate from Black N Brew was the most popular treat given the chilly temperature. Stateside was offering a free cocktail, Belle Cakery gave out cookies and Ms. Goody Cupcake slung their treats, plus more, all for free.
The students of the Andrew Jackson School rock band played holiday classics while patrons waited for the tree to be lit. At 5:30 sharp, the countdown started and the tree lit up. Children cheered and singing filled the air well past the lighting. A group of youngsters from the Alphabet Academy hit center stage with Santa, while their parents watched in enjoyment.
The shops, street lights and houses along the Avenue are making East Passyunk start to look a lot like Christmas. For more Christmas spirit, check out this link for a line-up of the EPABID’s Deck the Avenue festivities,  running all month long.
