Bizarre Bazaar collectors boutique opens in Queen Village

Are you in need of a life-sized Hannibal Lecter? A working mini vacuum cleaner in its original packaging? A Charles Manson autograph? or Naughty Stewardesses posters? How convenient it is that Bizarre Bazaar featuring Professor Ouch’s Odditorium opened this fall at 720 South 5th Streetin the former Astro Vintage space.

The store is owned by a man who goes by the name Professor Ouch, which should tell you at least a little about the place. It’s for the anti-Pottery Barn set and packed sky high with things you didn’t know you needed. Stocked by a co-op of specialized collectors, the store sells a stash of vintage toys, posters, autographs, novelties, and tons more.

Professor Ouch has been a fixture on the Philadelphia underground scene and he has his fingers in lots of pies. He owns Philadelphia Eddie’s Tattoo shop nearby in Queen Village, runs the annual Hot Rod Hoedown, hosts the Rockabilly Roadhouse Radio weekly on WPRB 103.3 FM, plus monthly gigs hosting live music events at Jack’s Twin Bar in Jersey (where Bill Haley gave birth to Rock n’ Roll) and at Philly’s own Bob & Barbara’s.

Bizarre Bazaar is his most recent endeavor. In January he plans to open Professor Ouch’s Great American Odditorium and World Museum in a room in the back, featuring a Cabinet of Curiosities.

The professor’s web presence is a little scattered, but you can find more about him on Instagram, Facebook and here.

With a name like Professor Ouch, you’d think he would look more sinister.

Utterly terrifying
Eh, that’s not so scary
It works!
