Artist Hawk Krall visualizes Passyunk – plus NYT and Racked in South Philly

It’s quite an optimistic vision, but we’ll take it.

Hawk Krall has in recent years become locally famous-ish for his pop-art depictions of food, like the Pizza Brain mural in Fishtown. The above illustration was done for the Philly-based website Next City, which highlighted Passyunk Ave for a story about urban corridors:

No one formula exists for injecting life into these fallen urban commercial corridors. But using Philly streets as case studies, Ryan Briggs looks at four distinct strategies for redevelopment and revitalization, laying out challenges, reinvention process and the innovative fixes that may apply to streets in your own city.

You would need to pay to read the story, and sorry to say, we didn’t, but we’re all familiar with what has made Passyunk great. We just like the picture, so there you go.Also, Racked Philly has a Q&A with the new Home furnishings store on Passyunk, which we first told you about in November. And you may have heard that the New York Times highlighted Artisan Boulanger in its 36 Hours in Philadelphia feature, though by the time New Yorkers book their train tickets, the shop could have moved already.
