BYOB art space to replace Bainbridge restaurant supply store

After more than 30 years of running Philadelphia Bar and Restaurant Supply, owner Harriet Mancini is retiring and unfortunately, closing up shop. The store at 629 E. Passayunk Ave. has provided casual home cooks to professional chefs in Queen Village all sorts of fancy gadgets and equipment.

It’s curtains for this one

While there is no final date set, the employee we spoke to said they anticipate the store will close for good sometime before mid-February. In the meantime, stop by for big sales.

The space shouldn’t be empty for too long, however, as there seems to already be a tenant ready to take over. An employee said that a new art supply store, Art with a Twist, will be taking over the space.

But the employee was a bit off. The new business will be Painting with a Twist, a Louisiana-based company with more than 70 franchises, mostly in the South. The shtick is you get a bunch of friends and a couple bottles of wine for art classes at PWAT. By the end, everyone has a buzz and an example of their own creativity.

PWAT, which has local locations in Wayne and Skippack, says on its website that a Philadelphia location is coming soon. A spokeswoman at corporate headquarters said she wasn’t sure of the expected timeline and would only confirm that a franchise was opening there, so we’ll keep our eyes peeled for any progress.

I will miss that store. I wonder what that space will become when Painting with a Twist closes down in less than a year.
