Don’t mean to link dump here, but there was so much good South Philly stuff elsewhere yesterday that we figured we had to let you know about it.
Brian Freedman at Philly Weekly writes that he waited for 90 minutes at Hawthorne’s – and he’d do it again.
However long you’re on the list, it’s worth the wait. The food here finds a delicate balance between the sort of morning comfort most of us require, and a kind of flavor-driven ambition that sets it apart.
Feb. 23 will see the debut of Miles Table at 1620 South St., a cozy, neighborhood-friendly spot from Michael Lynch, whose business Catering by Miles counts for much of the reason people want to join Lombard Swim Club (where he’s exclusive caterer).

She’ll premiere her cream-based liqueurs in five flavors on the Ave.: lemon, orange, chocolate, banana and strawberry. That last flavor, says Joan, “perfect for Valentine’s Day.”
P.S. Joan and Tom are hosting a grand opening (read: tasting) party for their 1908 E. Passyunk Ave. ‘cello-porium on February 23rd from 1 to 8 p.m.
