Gennaro’s Tomato Pie is Closing
In 2012, Gennaro’s Tomato Pie opened up in Newbold at Jackson & Carlisle Streets where most nights, seating was at a premium. Three years later, owner Mike Giammarino moved the whole BYO operation to East Passyunk Avenue.
Sadly, July 30th will be the last day for Gennaro’s in its current location across from the the East Passyunk Singing Fountain as they’ll will be moving north to Parx Casino in Bensalem.
The former Jackson Street location is currently a yoga studio owned by Mike’s wife.
Great spot. Anyone want to open a Greek Taverna?
1) I really like their pizza. I will miss it.
2) No way in Hell I’m going to PARX, for any reason. Gamblers don’t care about great pizza. They want free drinks while sucking on a Marlboro.
3) In spite of their excellent pizza, Gennaro’s never made best use of the space. Open 5 hours a day, 5 days a week is a lot wasted time for such a prime location. Hopefully someone with a little more vision moves in.
