We spotted a bunch of permits taped inside the windows last week of the corner spot that for about 20 years was Carman’s Country Kitchen. A quick call to building owner John Angelis confirmed that it was indeed rented.
And no, he doesn’t think it will be a run-of-the-mill pizza place.
Of course, that doesn’t mean that we actually know yet what it will be. Angelis said he believes the woman he leased it to plans another restaurant of some kind, but he didn’t have any details to offer. We left a message with the new operator and haven’t heard back.
The permits don’t give a whole lot away. The most telling one says, “minor upgrades to include: floor coverings, wall coverings and new counters.”
“New counters” seems to indicate something like the old set-up, with all-counter seating. There’s certainly a lot of work to be done. From what it looked like inside, the place needed more than minor upgrades.
We’ll be sure to update you as soon as we hear back from the new tenant. But you can be sure that all this stuff will be gone, since there’s a dumpster outside now.
