Kris restaurant at 11th and Federal calls it quits

Kris Restaurant

Kris, the restaurant that opened at 11th and Federal in November 2011, is closing, according to a post on its Facebook page.

“We are sorry to say but Kris is now closed. All gift certificates from Kris will be honored at Stogie Joe’s Tavern. Thank you.”

Owner Kristian Leuzzi, who also owns Stogie’s at Passyunk and Moore, in case you couldn’t tell, opened Kris as a more casual successor to white-tablecloth Kristian’s, which held down that corner for several years.

Meanwhile, we’re not totally surprised about this development because the building had been put up for sale, which we told you about in October.

Here’s what we reported at the time:

Restaurant owner Kristian Leuzzi, who also owns Stogie Joe’s at Passyunk and Moore, said in a quick phone conversation that his dad, Dominic, owns the building and that he’s not sure why he listed it. Kristian stressed, though, that business is good and that there are no plans to close.

It was listed for $839,900, including the restaurant plus four apartments above, but it appears the price was reduced to $750,000. Now it’s not on the market at all. City records still say Dominic owns the bricks, but that doesn’t necessarily mean it didn’t sell within the last couple months. We’ll keep you posted.
