Joncarl Lachman won the bet, so he gets his champagne

You could say a lot about Passyunk Post, but we ain’t no welchers.

Back when the newly opened Noord was first announced, we dubbed chef Joncarl Lachman’s plan to open by the end of April overly ambitious, pompously listed several reasons and set the over-under for his opening date as May 10. He said he could beat it, wagered a bottle of champagne (the real stuff) and proceeded to open two days before.

Two days? Really?
Two days? Really?

Well, he deserved it. By all accounts the restaurant, which took the rare step of skipping the typical friends-and-family-style previews, has been doing a bang-up job serving tasty Northern European cuisine out of its handsome corner space for two weeks now.

Any early reviews?

Meanwhile, we keep setting the over-under on businesses that are opening in the area. Any takers?

I was there the first weekend. The beer-steamed mussels were astounding, and the service was extremely friendly. I wish them luck.

So excited to have Noord in the neighborhood. Can’t wait to try it out. I think they need to do something with the blank wall. It’s too big and white and boring. Maybe some Nordic art?
