Rumor Mill: Coffee shop coming to 13th and Snyder?

Not so fast.

Remember the abandoned “South Philadelphia Shipping Center” building on the corner of 13th and Snyder Avenue?

Well, it’s being renovated. After we posted about an architect’s office coming to Snyder and Juniper, we kept hearing rumors that a coffee shop was going to the 13th Street corner. But unfortunately, the “For Rent” signs in the window indicate it is still available, which the owner of the building confirmed.

The good news is that if you want to open a coffee shop there, you still can. You can rent the 1,000 square foot storefront for $1,400 per month and/or the second floor 1,000 square foot apartment for $1,200 per month. The owner said “everything is brand new” inside.

At least they've made some progress. This pic's from December

Interested? Check out this space so we can expand East Passyunk to Snyder and beyond.

I hope it’s a hip coffee shop and not one for “old greaseballs” as the man sitting in that picture, Mr. Bell, reported it would be.

I guess it’s easy to use an ethnic slur when you don’t have to say it in person. You’re an idiot (and that’s the most friendly word I can use on a public website).

Take it easy Ray Ray, it was a direct quote of the individual sitting in front of the building, not the oponion expressed by the writer. If you have beef feel free to hang out on the corner and let Mr Bell know.

This would be great. I just bought a house on 11th street south of Snyder, and I would love to have a coffee shop so close. I do love Passyunk’s options, but I’d love to save that extra 10 or so minutes of walking.

    Thanks for posting this.
