Doc’s Union Pub is for sale – despite 2009 visit from James Franco

Maybe the Ratmobile is just taking up too much of John Dougherty’s time*? Or maybe it was all the PLCB violations the place racked up.

Whatever the reason, Doc’s Union Pub at 2nd and Mifflin streets is up for sale for $489,000, according to the listing by Greg Damis of Prudential Fox Roach.

The place is big, more than 2,500 square feet, and it has a second-floor deck, a prime opportunity for something much, much better to swoop in. Meanwhile, the bar is still open for dinner every night, Damis said.

On a relatively related note, how about this picture from Doc’s Facebook page?

Yes, that is James Franco posing with some folks at Doc’s in a picture posted to the bar’s Facebook page in 2009. How the hell did that happen?

Anyway, thanks to the talented Liz Spikol at Philly mag’s new Property blog for tipping us off to this one.

* And actually, Dougherty apparently was more of a silent partner in the venture (despite his name being in the bar’s name), but whatever. We just wanted an excuse to mention the Ratmobile.

Yes, it’s time for something better to swoop in. How about another cookie-cutter hipster dive bar with expensive craft beers and a vegan menu.

You are right Number one, best to keep it a nuisance bar full of mouth breathing (barely) working union thug stiffs. Much better for the neighborhood.

#2, this neigborhood is full of union people and has been since you lived in your mothers ballsack. if you don’t like union people then gtfo of the neighborhood. P.S. I bet your one of the backpackers on new years day who are up and down 2nd street ruining the parade route.

Its not union people in general – its the knuckledragging species that frequents this location. Its a racist, nuisance bar plain and simple. P.S. and no I don’t really partake in the annual cross dressing parade festivities on Jan 1., not my thing really. It will be interesting to see what comes to this space.

Your use of the politically incorrect RACIST term “knuckle-dragging”, and obvious contempt for people who live alternative lifestyles (crossdressing) exposes you as a hater and bigot. You should take your anti-local resident battle to Point Breeze. Try using that language to describe their neighborhood!

I’m sorry your GED has failed you so miserably. Now go get your shine box!
