The Epiphany of Our Lord church at 11th and Jackson is going to start charging $100 a month for parking spots in its lot in an effort to make up for declining collections.
The spots will be reserved for 24/7 parking and will be available to anyone, not just parishioners, who apparently will have more trouble finding parking for mass on Sundays. This also means the church is eliminating “the free overnight parking that the parish has been providing for the community for over 25 years,” the church said in its bulletin.
The church said collection totals have declined dramatically in the last two years. The church roof needs another $130,000 in restoration and that doesn’t count necessary repairs to windows and the rectory roof.

In other Epiphany news, the church has been approved to put its annex up for sale. The annex, a handsome two-story rowhouse across the street, was donated to the church years ago for extra meeting and office space but now is used mostly for storage. The church says it hopes to list the property by mid-September.
