Sports memorabilia store moving out of Passyunk storefront

CORRECTION: This post has been updated from an earlier version that incorrectly reported the store had closed.

South Philly Sports, the memorabilia store that moved in just under two years ago at 1712 E. Passyunk Ave., is moving to 1417 W. Porter St.

Later, pal.
Later, pal.

The owner’s wife said they would have loved to stay on Passyunk Avenue but that the building was sold earlier this year and the new owner wants to open a shop of her own. For more info about the shop, check out or the website covering the auctions side of the business,

Workers were peeling the letters off the windows this week to erase traces of the shop’s existence and we noticed that last night (after taking the above picture) paper went up over the windows. So that’s a good sign that the new owner is already moving forward with her plans, whatever they may be.

The building, which previously housed the A1 Gift Store until it was raided for selling knock-off handbags and other counterfeit merchandise, was sold for $395,000 in January 2012, but we don’t yet see a record of the latest sale.

We’ll keep our eyes peeled. Plenty needs a good neighbor.

Incidentally, on the other side of the closed store, what had been called Blush Beauty Bar is now called Avenue Salon & Spa.

Avenue Salon & Spa

It’s not been a great month for retail around here. Aci Nae, St. Jude’s and Calm massage studio all have said they’re closing too

I’d wager that not all of those closings are bad signs for the Avenue’s retail. Good things coming, I’d wager.
