South Philly woman gets her stolen bike back via Facebook – & you can too

A week after we checked in with the 3rd Police District about rumors regarding increased bike thefts, the district sent out a notice saying that one of our neighbors found her stolen bike by joining a group on Facebook called Philadelphia Stolen Bikes.

Reunited and it feels so good…

That’s awesome.

According to the police notice:

She posted her bike photo and information on the website. On July 8, 2013, she saw a post on the stolen bike network telling her that a bike on craigslist looked like hers that was being sold for $1000.

She arranged to meet the lister and she called the cops.

Officers sat on the steps a short distance away from the defendants house who came out carrying the black and green cannondale bike. The plainclothes officers then approached and conducted an investigation. It was definitely the bike with matching serial numbers and pink paint on it. The officers then returned the bike to the owner and placed the defendant under arrest.

Justice prevails!

When we posted last week about the bike thefts, several people emailed or commented saying theirs had been stolen. Has anyone else out there gotten theirs back? That Facebook group has more than 1,300 members, so that’s a great start if yours is still missing.
