Pakistani restaurant replacing Latest Dish, but what’s with all the hookah bars lately?

A Pakistani-Indian restaurant called Kabobeesh will be taking over the location at 613 S. 4th St. that used to be the Latest Dish downstairs and Fluid night club upstairs.

The new owners, says the Insider, will open the second location of their poplar West Philly eatery downstairs and a hookah bar upstairs.

That makes the third new place to score a hookah in South Philly in the last two months (New Delhi on 11th and Amalia’s Cafe on West Passyunk).

The more the merrier, we suppose.

At any rate, the menu at Kabobeesh could be mistaken for that of many Middle Eastern restaurants at first glance, with its assortment of kebabs. But the Indian influences and the pictures on their website tell a different story.

Check them out here. Just grab a hanky to blot the drool.

As you can see see from the sign above, the spot is “An Authentic Name in Barbecue Grill.” Kind of reminds us of the old Broad Street Diner sign, which used to say, “Broad Street Diner, A Place for Ribs.”

Not “the” place for ribs, or a place for “great” ribs. Just a place. But that’s neither here nor there…
