SoPhilly Spotlight: Liberace edition

For this week’s SoPhilly Spotlight, we conjure the spirit of Liberace, whose appreciation for the bling was matched by no living man, except maybe the sellers of this house at 2521 S. Hicks St.

So many golden curlicues…

Coming in at a very affordable $145,000, the home – 3-bed, 1-bath, 1,008 square feet – is a little further south than most listings we highlight, but it’s just so … unique … that we couldn’t help ourselves.

The listing really stretches the limits with its assertion that the house has been “lovingly updated.” Says Jeff “City” Block of Prudential Fox-Roach:

Charming and spacious 3 bedroom, 2-story home in meticulous condition. Large patio. Neighborly, clean, friendly block. In the same family for 60 years, lovingly updated and wonderfully maintained–the pride of ownership is evident. Large, open living and dining area. Excellent layout. High-ceilings. Bright eat-in kitchen with white appliances and cabinets. Pristine full bath. Big windows for great light. Beautiful brick and marble facade and marble steps. Tile vestibule with transom. Big front bay window. Excellent storage space and closets. Alarm system.

What part was updated again? They didn’t even show a picture of the “pristine” bathroom. Hmm…

At least it’s in the price range of what most residents of this neighborhood could even fathom considering. These usual $350k and up listings are a bit pointless for us 99%’s. Looks like a decent size, clean home in a decent location to me.

Ah, yes, Riker, but a guy can dream, can’t he? Besides, wouldn’t these spotlights get boring if they were all affordable, sensible options? Variety is the spice of life, as the say.

It’s very uncomfortable to read some of these Spotlight
posts where you make fun of the owner’s tastes. If the furnishings
aren’t coming with the house, who cares? It’s not your style, but
someone loved this house and worked very hard to tailor it to their
tastes. Pride of ownership is definitely evident. Grace and
generosity on your part, definitely not.

Well, I certainly appreciate that you keep reading, despite disagreeing with me. That does show grace and generosity on your part.
