A new women’s clothing store called Fashion Alert is working to open around the beginning of September at 810 S.9th St.
The handwritten signs in the window say the shop will feature “attire and jewelry” from “New York designs and local designers,” and owner Michelle Marchiano said she’s had the experience to get it all together.
Marchiano told us she recently returned home to Philly after spending five years in New York trying to make it as a singer/actress/dancer. She worked side jobs in boutiques there and got to know the designers and how to run the business, so she figured she’d make a go of it back home.
Work on the shop, which previously housed the Rocking Horse children’s boutique, has already begun. Someone was painting the walls inside a lush purple-y color last week, so it looks like she could be on track to hit her opening date.
She also owns a dance studio called The Dancer’s Studio at 16th and Shunk, which she came back to Philly to operate two days a week even while she was living in New York. At one point the studio was located at 1621 E. Passyunk Ave., where South Philadelphia Stained Glass is now.
Wish her luck next time you pass by.
