First Pics: Metro men’s clothing store moves into bigger, badder location

Metro may have only moved a few dozen yards, but it’s a world of difference for the men’s clothier.

The store’s new location, 1600 E. Passyunk Ave., opened this week with at least twice the space of the previous shop at 1615 E. Passyunk Ave.

Still on offer are top-name brands like Ben Sherman, Penguin and Scotch and Soda, as well as a complimentary beer, cocktail or other beverage while you shop. The biggest difference is that there is plenty of room to browse without feeling like you’re getting in anyone’s way.

Owner Tom Longo says he was recently awarded a small business grant to create an online store, so the basement will be used to process online orders. The online store isn’t ready yet, but here’s the website for good measure.

The basement used to house 1600 Below Vintage before it moved with the building’s first floor tenant, Reliable Floor Covering, into the flooring store’s other location on Bainbridge.

And about those rumors. We’ve been hearing chatter that Longo was considering opening a women’s counterpart. Nope. He says he’s sticking with what he knows and does well, at least for now.

Yeah, Tom. Congrats.

I’ve only bought from Metro once, but that store is great. Good for them.
