New deli/beer store opens at 20th and Snyder

A hearty welcome goes out to our newest contributor, Chuck Schultz. Thanks for helping out, sir. If you’re also a nosy neighbor (in the good way) and would like to contribute, please email us at

The Green Ocean Deli has opened at 20th and Snyder, offering a pretty good selection of 6- and 12-packs on top of a menu for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.

The place is clean, bright and renovated – a welcome addition to a street that is lined with the dated storefronts of clothing stores, barber shops, Chinese takeouts and laundromats.

It’s definitely an improvement over what the building used to look like.

Glen, the son’s owner, said they ran a beer store previously in North Philly near Temple. There is a small bar inside as well but they wouldn’t let us take pictures inside.

But here’s a copy of the menu, which is nothing special, but it’s certainly cheap.

Nice! It’s 4 blocks from my job. I will try them out for a quick breakfast. My husband and I were just talking about how there’s not enough places in Philly to pick up an egg and cheese in the morning.
