$1,000 reward for missing cat, possibly being ‘held against his will’

Plastic-covered fliers have been posted around 13th and Dickinson in the hopes of finding a cat so beloved that the owner is willing to shell out $1,000 for its return, no questions asked.

Owner Greg DiStefano said his pet, a neutered indoor-outdoor cat named Pookie, went out the night of Oct. 13 and never came back. He says the cat must be either dead or in someone’s house.

DiStefano has placed several ads on Craigslist saying Pookie is “being held against his will.” He even took out ads in the South Philly Review.

“After he didn’t come back Sunday night, I knew something was wrong,” DiStefano said. “I feel as though someone has him.”

He said the cat has no collar because his last cat “nearly strangled himself to death.” He also quickly noted that he doesn’t believe there is any nefarious motive. “I think someone thought it was a stray cat and just took it in. I don’t think it was a malicious catnapping.”

How about that $1,000? “At least it’s not one of my kids, but I’ve had the cat for seven years and he’s like a family member,” he said.

Keep an eye out.

I live on 13th and Reed and have seen a similar looking cat in the alley behind my house. I caught it the other day sleeping on my bench in my backyard, but it wouldn’t let me get close to it, it jumped the wall and ran away. I have been leaving food and water out for it, since I think it hangs out in my back yard often (i have found cat throw up and hair all over my bench). Are there any markings in particular I can look for if I can get close to it? Would pookie let people get close to him/her? I just don’t want to waste your time if it’s not your cat.

I’d just call him anyways to be safe.

You can look up the craigslist ad under lost & found and email him.

Thank you for the post. If this were my cat, he would have come home. Especially at 13th and Reed. This is his home turf and very familiar. Even up to 5 blocks away. Thanks again, Greg.
PS if you can snap a photo of him, this would erase all doubts.

I saw a little boy putting up some of these posters. I hope they find Pookie soon. The break-away collars work pretty well if you want to id your kitties, but also don’t want them to get caught on anything.
