UPDATE: Check out lots of pictures of the inside of Laurel and the four-course opening menu by clicking here.
Laurel, the French BYOB from Top Chef contestant Nick Elmi, opens for dinner on Tuesday at 1617 E. Passyunk Ave.
Reservations might even still be available for opening night (a couple slots were open last night).
“We certainly don’t want to call it fine dining,” said Elmi, who did a ton of that when he was chef at Le Bec-Fin. “A bunch of chefs today are redefining what fine dining is now. What it boils down to is who’s going to put the best food out there and connect with our customers the best?”
If you’re not into Open Table, which charges restaurants for each reservation, you can call 215-271-8299 for a table.
Elmi managed to get through the fifth week of Top Chef on Wednesday night. Speaking of which:

And there’s always the empty Sophia’s…
