Fountan tree lighting happens tomorrow – and Santa bar crawl next week

With the remainder of turkey day leftovers funkifying in your fridge, it’s time to focus on the true holiday rush – all the Christmas doings along East Passyunk Avenue in the next week.

Tomorrow night, the fountain at Passyunk and Tasker will be lit as the neighborhood Christmas tree (after it’s transformed into one). The event, from 5 to 7 p.m., comes paired with free food and drinks from some of the surrounding restaurants – think hot chocolate, cookies and small tastes of soup. And yes, Santa will be there.

The East Passyunk Avenue Business Improvement District has also coordinated extended happy hours at the bars and restaurants and many merchants will be offering special discounts, according to a press release.

Then next week, Dec. 11, from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. the EPABID is hosting its Spirits & Suds with Santa bar crawl at 14 bars and restaurants along Passyunk.

Participating locations (see the full list here) will offer $3 seasonal craft beers (wintry ales and dark porters), $4 cocktails and $5 snacks.  The crawl’s $5 admission gets revelers either a Santa or Elf hat and a stamp card, which, with five stamps or more, provides entry into a raffle for a $350 gift-certificate package. For the intrepid drinkers, every stamp over five gives you an extra chance in the drawing, which will be held at the end of the night at Noir (1909 E. Passyunk Ave.).

And, because it’s the season of giving, all proceeds from the crawl will go to local families in need through East Passyunk Crossing‘s holiday giving program.

Advance tickets are available online here, but can also be purchased the day-of at South Philly Bar & Grill (1235 E. Passyunk Ave.) starting at 5:30 p.m.

So don ye now your gay apparel, knock back a few brews and try not to break down over the fact that there will only be 14 shopping days left until Christmas.

UPDATE: Oh, and more thing. Head over to Urban Jungle on Saturday, Dec. 7 from 2 to 6 p.m. for their tree and wreath sale that doubles as a fundraiser for the Passyunk Square Civic Association, the now-10-year-old civic group.
