Feel-good story of the young year: Make a Wish foundation sending South Philly teen to Grammys

Thanks to the local chapter of the Make a Wish Foundation, 15-year-old South Philly resident Julia Parmisciano is headed to the Grammy Awards this weekend in Los Angeles.

Julia, who was profiled in a 2011 Inquirer story, got a preview of the glitz this month with a red-carpet-style event at Hard Rock Cafe in Center City. The best part is that Julia is doing fantastic since receiving a heart transplant.

Julia had been diagnosed with cardiomyopathy, a disease of the heart muscle, and received the transplant in December 2011. She chose this wish because she loves music and wants to see the stars on the red carpet, the foundation said.

The wish was the local chapter of the foundation’s 5,000th wish, which is a nice side not in itself. For more information about the local Make a Wish and their good work, check out their website here.
