South Philly Food Co-op launches membership push, ever so close to signing a lease

The South Philly Food Co-op is hosting a series of events over the next several weeks as part of a spring-time membership campaign (yes, spring is right around the corner, promise) to bring its roster to the 600-member threshold it needs to sign a lease.

Called “599 and You,” the campaign started last weekend with a viewing party of a Manhattan TEDx event at Theatre Exile. Upcoming events include Food Quzzo at Wishing Well on March 12, a member-hosted eat and greet on March 18 and what’s being billed as a “Victory Party” at Boot and Saddle on April 28.

They currently have 542 members and hope to hit 600 by the end of April. Members will have input on the entire process of the grocery store, from hiring to interior design.

But no, the location has not been finalized. A real-estate committee has been scouting possible locations for more than six months, but they’re quite tight-lipped on what they’ve checked out so far.

Check here for more information on the upcoming events and here to join. We joined a year ago on a payment plan, and so can you.

They say that more events and initiatives will be announced soon, so make sure to follow them on Facebook and Twitter or sign up for the newsletter to stay in the loop.
